Tier44 Technologies, a newly established company by former Power Assure CTO Clemens Pfeiffer and several other key Power Assure employees, acquires "intellectual property assets" from Power Assure, Inc.
Santa Clara, CA, November 18, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Tier44 Technologies, Inc. announced today that it acquired most of the intellectual property from Power Assure, Inc. Tier44 will continue to leverage the intellectual property and further advance it to serve data centers, operators and users.
Power Assure was established in 2007 by several senior data center and technology executives, amongst them, Clemens Pfeiffer, the company's CTO. Power Assure raised over $30M from investors and ABB and received a grant from the DOE to advance its products and offerings. Under Clemens’s technology leadership, Power Assure was widely recognized as a technology leader and visionary in the data center space, represented by multiple awards over the years. However, Power Assure ceased operations earlier this year.
Tier44 Technologies, Inc. was established in October 2014 by Clemens Pfeiffer and several other former Power Assure employees to advance the vision and goals from Power Assure by focusing on the commercialization of the various Power Assure technologies. These technologies include the equipment energy efficiency rating PAR4, the DCIM monitoring solutions EM/4 and its successor EM/5, and what was named by Power Assure "Software Defined Power", the mechanisms and runbook automation to dynamically adjust IT capacity inside and across data centers based on variable application load and outside utility grid status and risk factors.
Along with the intellectual property, trademarks and patents, Tier44 also acquired almost all software components ever developed by Power Assure and will continue to provide them to customers. Tier44 will operate under its own name, retiring the use of the trademark for "Software Defined Power", which has been acquired by another party.
As part of its long term vision, all technologies will be adjusted to further help data center operators and application providers to achieve the ultimate application reliability goal of 100% availability at minimum cost. Tier44 calls this "Holistic Data Center Management", turning always-on data centers into utilization proportional data centers, which can quickly and automatically respond to changes in application demand and mitigate against potential outage risks.
